When the man behind the stall front is revealed Clementine immediately tenses up, jumping both at his presence and the sudden burst of violent coughing he goes into. It makes her hesitate.
She's not the type to immediately attack someone without cause. Clementine doesn't want to fight and she doesn't want to kill anyone, not if she doesn't have to. The only way she'll harm someone is in self-defence or in the defence of someone she cares about and so far this man hasn't done anything to her.
But she doesn't know him and just because he looks harmless doesn't mean he is, anyone she doesn't know is a potential threat.
