His head snapped up, over to where her voice was coming from - and though it was dark under the flickering lights, his vision hadn't suffered so much that he couldn't identify her. He took a hurried step out, towards her, and then restrained himself (should he move closer? Would that scare her? Wasn't that better than the alternative, in this place?). How should he react? How was she expecting him to react?
"I didn't see-" he starts, memory flashing through the faces he'd been surrounded by so recently. Even now he couldn't remember her - of course, if he'd seen her then, he wouldn't have run, until he knew she could run with him.
Inexplicably he gets angry - because she's here, or because he didn't notice her, or just at the entire situation. His eyes burn again as he looks at her, and his velvet voice is almost a snarl. "What are you doing here?"
