Despite her mocking, Akane was correct, as usual. As the darkness thickened, Sigma slowed to a stop, listening for sounds of vermin ahead. Without light even his cybernetic eye was useless. Was there truly a way they could avoid animals down here? When one of them slept the other could keep watch, he supposed. At any rate, the company of rats may prove better than 'hiding' up top in the light and without shelter.

"We'll do our best," Sigma sighed without pun, forcing himself to think of the situation at hand rather than of cats. He certainly knew he wouldn't resort to eating the rats here... Though the Doctor had found very few supplies since the Arena began, it proved to him there was at least some food up above. He'd also seen a crate of apples at the Cornucopia, which someone must be carrying. He loathed the thought of killing another Tribute over food, but what choice did they have?

He pulled a protein bar, the one item he'd found kicked underneath a convenience store counter, from his pocket and held it out to Akane. The wrapper crinkled noisily in his hands, but despite the echoes in the train tunnels he was sure they were out of earshot by now. "Eat. I already had something earlier," he lied. Perhaps he was going out of his way to look after her - either out of chivalry or foolishness.
