Welcome to Panem. You have been selected to participate in the 75th Annual Hunger Games!

Premise: This Arena is designed to be a small mock arena not all that dissimilar to the in-game arenas we run here at The Games. The party is similar to some of the gathering logs we have inside the Capitol when an Arena begins. Our hope is to give new and prospective players a place to get their feet wet, and get a feel for the fun (and bloody) mess that goes on around here.

This meme is open to anyone and everyone who would like to play. Current cast members, veteran and new, as well as anyone just wanting top drop in and have some fun!

How To Play.

Current cast members - you may tag into this Arena in any way you choose, even cast members who aren't or are no longer tributes.

***An important side note, as it is within the confines of the Arena in-game, all powers are lessened/nullified to bring any character down to a vincible level. (i.e. make more magical/super-powered characters easier to actually kill for a normal person). Rule of thumb: If it's a physical difference, the Capitol will not mutilate it out (wings, etc.), but otherwise it's gone.

The Arena.

A thick mist rolls over the pedestals, sending shivers down the spines of every Tribute.  It's heavy, wet, the kind of mist that leaves you soaking wet and trembling.  You could swear you can hear teeth chattering from every side of you.

Clad only in long underwear, it is of utter importance that you find someplace to warm up and dry off, but looking around, there aren't many viable options.  In the darkness, the trees are hard to make out at first, but once there's enough moonlight to penetrate the fog, it becomes apparent that they tower over everything, trapping the Tributes in like a prison.  The woods are utterly silent, completely still.

It's unnerving.

Then... the countdown starts.

5...

4...

The Cornucopia is at the center of the pedestals, tempting with an array of weapons, camping supplies, warm clothing, and freeze dried food. There are not enough of any for everyone.

With the sound of the gong, the Arena has begun.

The Party.

Back in the Capitol, the Cornucopia run is the talk of the town.  A lavish party is underway in the local botanical gardens, with the Avox waitstaff dressed as different types of trees.  The food is plentiful and excessive, and the drinks even more so.  There are plenty of sponsors to rub elbows with, so now's your chance to make some good connections.

Anyone who's anyone is invited.

The Arena.

The Tributes are put into the tube by their Stylists and emerge into blistering dry heat and blinding sun. They stand atop a red rock peak, in a circle, with the Cornucopia in the center. They're dressed in cargo shorts and tank tops, men and women, and hiking boots. The sun beats down mercilessly, and there's a fifty-foot drop around them from this natural pedestal.

The Cornucopia's bounty includes rock climbing harnesses, water bottles, ropes, climbing grips for shoes, globes, sunscreen, and cans of food and water. Naturally, weapons are also available - crossbows, bear traps, "walking sticks", hunting knives.

The wildlife waits for them below: gila monsters with poisonous mouths, violent javelinas, shrikes bred to go for the eyes, rattlesnakes with hallucinogenic venom.

Ropes and carabiners hang from the sides of the peak, for those who don't die in the bloodbath or fall to their dooms.

The Party.

Back in the Capitol, the Cornucopia is being celebrated with a lavish party inside a hologram room. The walls of the party shift around to various exotic locales, but the theme of the evening seems to be Heat. Saunas and tanning beds are available, and Capitolites, their makeup practically dripping off from the temperature, are in hot tubs or stripped down in fluffy robes. Avoxes, tongueless and sweaty, bring ice cold drinks to everyone.

Anyone who's anyone is invited.

The Arena.

The stench of chlorine is thick in the air even before the Tributes emerge from the tubes and onto their pedestals. Each Tribute is dressed in a plain, unisex swimsuit with their District's number emblazoned on their chest. No shoes are provided, but their Stylists slather them in sunscreen first.

Once the Tributes get a view of the Arena, they'll see that it's a sprawling water park. Huge slides tower up to the sky. A inner tube lagoon filled with inflatable rafts circles the entire Arena, with an electric fence on the other side. Food carts for Dippin' Dots and churros stand empty, with working refrigerators and hot pans of oil but nothing edible.

The cement is slippery, and not all the pools are filled with water. Some have been replaced with slow-acting acid, while others are highly flammable and oily. Perhaps most dangerous is the wave pool, which sends a tidal flood out over the entire Arena at least ten feet high, making the stairwells up the slides a, pun intended, lifesaver. Those caught in the hourly surge will be smashed against the electric fence and anything else that gets in the way.

The countdown starts.

The Cornucopia, set as a small island in a big, circular pool, is filled with harpoons, nets and life jackets. There are not enough of any for everyone.

With the sound of the gong, the Arena has begun.

The Party.

Back in the Capitol, the Cornucopia is being celebrated with a lavish party atop a skyscraper. A huge pool with a glass bottom hangs over the edge, and citizens who aren't enjoying watching the screens are all marveling about how they feel like they're swimming and flying at the same time as they paddle around hundreds of feet above the Capitol city. Some citizens are naked, and others are pushing the boundaries of practical swimwear. A barbecue with Hawaiian food and an ice cream buffet sit next to each other. Pigs are being roasted on spits and Avoxes wait on citizens with little shrimps and pineapples in cups.

Anyone who's anyone is invited.

Make more magical/super-powered characters easier to actually kill for a normal person). Rule of thumb: If it's a physical difference, the Capitol will not mutilate it out (wings, etc), but other wise it's gone.

The Arena.

Tributes are raised in a circle around the Cornucopia; they are all dressed in safari outfits, including the little hats, and slathered in bug spray and sunscreen. They look amongst each other at the start of the Cornucopia. At the center of the circle is a fountain where a dancing hippo spits water into a circular pool around it. There's an engraving in embossed letters around the one-foot rim of the pool: PANEM NATIONAL ZOO.

Floating in the water of the brass fountain are supplies that the Tributes should find useful: medical kits, sleeping bags, and most importantly, weapons. Ropes, bo staffs, nunchuks, daggers and spears are all in ready supply a mere hundred yard sprint from the Tributes.

There are four paths away from the Cornucopia - into a swampy pit to the south, which, unbeknownt to Tributes, hosts alligators and crocodiles who've missed their scheduled feeding. To the west, into a dark building where boxes cut into the walls reveal that there were once tanks for creepy crawlies, but the glass has been removed. Through a gift-shop to the north, stuffed with plush animals (many of which are filled with razor blades, or other sweet little surprises). Or down an asphalt pathway to the east, winding through tall cages that may provide shelter from the other Tributes - but not necessarily the enclosure's inhabitants.

The countdown blares out in the humid air.

3...2...1...

Let the Games begin.

The Party.

Back in the Capitol, the Cornucopia is being celebrated with a lavish party. Animal couture is all the rage, and Capitol celebrities have dressed for the occasion by having their teeth elongated and their irises surgically altered to give the appearance of slit pupils. The wine is flowing freely, and the centerpiece of this particular viewing party is what appears to be a pig the size of a hippopotamus being roasted on a spit.

Screens throughout the large ballroom in which this takes place are showing the gruesome footage of the first bloodbath of what promises to be a delightfully ugly Arena. Tongueless Avoxes carry platters with little quail eggs in cups, silently offering them to all the guests. Caesar Flickerman, trademark blue hair now replaced by what appear to be feathers growing directly from his scalp, announces every gorey detail between oohing and ahhing over the dinner. Tributes die; Citizens feast.

Everyone who's anyone is invited.

Welcome new Tributes!

The Capitol has gathered a good crop of you at once, and to help morale, and to ease you into Capitol society they are throwing a banquet, just for those who work with the Games. Stylists, Escorts, mentors, a few of the Capitol elite, and of course, you all, the Tributes.

Instead of waking up in the normal way, new Tributes awake in lush beds, in a very posh ski lodge. Elegant but simple clothes are laid out for them, in a warm grey, and a note to come down as soon as they are ready. And if they linger too long, a peacekeeper appears to escort them down.

Those from the Capitol, are brought in on chartered party buses, one for each District, which are about as posh as a bus can get. It's a roughly 45 minute drive, well out of the Capitol's city limits.

Although the party is "mellow" by Capitol standards, it is still pretty damn extravagant. Alcohol flows freely, and banquet tables are kept fully stocked by silent avoxes. The whole ski lodge has been cleared out, and guest can hit up an ice skating rink, or pick out a swim suit and jumped into the huge, natural hot springs tubs.

As the night drags on, however, all does not go as planned. Half way through the night, there is a tremendous roar, and the hotel is plunged into pitch blackness. There is chaos for roughly 10 minutes, till low power emergency lights flicker on. However the generators don't have the power to keep the heater going.

A first aid station is set up, and the avoxes start pulling in blankets to the main lobby, lighting a fire in the fireplace and doing what they can to keep everyone warm. It is quickly communicated that there was an avalanche, and although the hotel remains in good shape, the power and the road to the Capitol has been cut out.

It's going to be a long night.
