So a big theme between these two is Terezi's position in romance, how Karkat disagrees with it, and what he consequently does about it.

When she was single, he disagreed with her supposed flirting with Dave and felt she should join his quadrants, so he flirted badly and gave mixed signals and made a stupid chart once he figured his feelings out and eventually realized what a massive, offputting dumbass he was being about everything. He knocked that whole thing off, thank god. He doesn't love or hate her anymore--not in a romantic sense.

(He still loves her as a friend, despite everything.)

When she and Gamzee hooked up as kismesises, he thought it was weird, but he'd learned his lesson from things with her and Dave. He gave her distance, let them do their thing, and only realized during the soda sticky no pants meteor journey end chat that well holy crap, he was hurting her, and she needed to leave him (to say the least). We all know how that one ended.

So now, there's the Initiate. I'm not going to go into that in length here because I wrote 1378 goddamn words for Fritz, jfc, that's enough for today. But the whole rambling mess of that has been a big obstacle between them, from the first fight he and Initiate had to them kind of making up during the space arena (and her subsequent death) and then betrayal mission Avox brainwashy bullshit and then that dream and then she disappeared oh wait she's in D13 but oh god she's helping Initiate, fuck fuck fuckity fuck.

It's hard. Whether or not anyone understands doesn't make it less so.

So in general it's just been this... long journey of wanting to be somewhere better than he is. Wanting to be her quadrantmate but he's too incompetent, just wanting to be her friend but she was too absorbed in Gamzee for what turned out to be terrible reasons that he couldn't stop because he was moping and then dead, wanting to be her friend again but Initiate kept messing everything up with his him-ness and then brainwashing and it keeps happening.

His heart hurts for her in a lot of ways. He feels guilty about Gamzee because he didn't step in sooner or prevent it somehow, and even now it bugs him. She's probably gone on to die with the condition she was in when Gamzee killed him, he figures. (ding ding ding) If he had just managed to keep Gamzee around as a moirail, or if he'd called them on it sooner, or auspisticized them, or auspisticized Rose and Kanaya so Kanaya could auspisticize Terezi and Gamzee, or... He keeps chasing his tail on that one.

But here she's fallen for another clown, a worse clown in some ways, because of how insidiously he's won over people's loyalty and again I'm gonna stop because 1378 words oh my sweet jesus I never shut up.

He wishes intensely that she would just believe him, that he could have done something to stop what happened from happening, that he had any way to change her mind about him. And regardless or what may or may not happen if she steps in on the Initiate thread happening, the Initiate is still gonna end up hoarding her corpse and setting off Karkat's guard dog-esque alarm over everything wrong with him. He'll definitely be trying to tell her if he can, to 'warn' her, to try to prove he's right, all that.

He's mad that she won't believe him, but more than that he's really sad for her, and he hurts a lot. He just doesn't want her to get hurt again.
