Derek is a best friend, basically family. It just took a few months of reminders to actually figure that out again.

She's never really worried about his persona re: the Capitol and she's fully capable of playing to it with him but she likes him best for the person he is beneath it. She knows he's fully capable of killer and has done so several times and I don't think she minds it so much. It was necessary, he had to do what he had to do and she trusts him enough to know he wouldn't hurt her. It's just that the whole dumb animal act just doesn't seem to fit him. He's intelligent and articulate if he lets himself be! She likes him as the person she gets to see again when they talk or when they interact in private where the public isn't watching. She's thrilled he still likes reading and all too amused that they share a lack of confidence in their bedroom skills. They enjoy some of the same things and so it makes him easier to talk to. He's probably the person she feels closest to in D4 house besides Kurloz.

She could do without him being SO much taller than her but it does make him handy for reaching and lifting her. The protectiveness he has over her and the rest of the house is actually just sort of seen by her as cute. Like a puppy barking when the doorbell rings. Just a puppy who could bite your arm off.
