TEST DRIVE ARENA 002

Photobucket

Welcome to Panem. You have been selected to participate in the 75th Annual Hunger Games!

Premise: Something has gone a bit wrong with the device, and it's pulling in more people than the Capitol had planned. Extras, doubles, or even the same exact version of someone already pulled into Panem, with or without their memories! It's a mess. But somebody has to clean it up. And what better way to do so than to have a televised death-match!?

This Arena is designed to be a small mock arena not all that dissimilar to the in-game arenas we run here at The Games. Our hope is to give new and prospective players a place to get their feet wet, and get a feel for the fun (and bloody) mess that goes on around here. This meme is open to anyone and everyone who would like to play. Current cast members, veteran and new, as well as anyone just wanting top drop in and have some fun!

How To Play.

Current cast members - you may tag into this arena in any way they choose. Even cast members who aren't or are no longer tributes. Since this meme is taking place between Arenas 03 and 04, you may play your character as though they have been sent into this arena after Arena 03, CR and in-game history intact. OR. You may play your character as having a clean slate; as though this is their very first Hunger Games. Or, at least the first one they can remember.

This meme may not count for in-game CR because it will not be considered as having actually happened, plot-wise.

Guests - welcome to Panem. This is your first time here. Your first Hunger Games. Run for the Cornucopia. Hide in a corner and cry. We don't care. Go crazy. Have fun. Make new friends. Profit.

***An important side note, as it is within the confines of the Area in-game, all powers are lessened/nullified to bring any character down to a vincible level. (I.E. Make more magical/super-powered characters easier to actually kill for a normal person). Rule of thumb: If it's a physical difference, the Capitol will not mutilate it out (wings, etc), but other wise it's gone.

The Arena.

Below, you will find a description of the setting for this arena as well as a few details regarding weapons, supplies and hazards.

Setting.

The building is old and musty, light filtering down through the dust particles that every movement sends into the air. It was obviously once a grand and beautiful place, a bustling hub, but this is far from true anymore.

The building consists of multiple levels. The main concourse is a huge, cavernous room, a hard place to hide in, but where all the cornucopia goodies can be found. Blue paint speckled with gold can still be seen clinging to what's left of the room, but any design has long since eroded away. Below that, a floor that ones held business and restaurants of all natures, and lower still levels of tracks, now long past the days of holding trains. Some of these tracks can be followed down a bit, if you want to make the jump down into them, but eventually all end short, either collapsed over the years or long since flooded out, ending in dark, murky water.

Photobucket

You have been outfitted in a pair of heavy cotton denim jeans, solid boots, a light cotton t-shirt and a heavy cotton hoodie. The upper floor can catch a draft, especially as night comes, but below the temperature is moderate, even warm.

Many thins are falling apart here, but the bulk of the building, made of cement and marble, has stood against time well. However, window have long since broken out, and store fronts, benches and counters made of woods have not fared as well.

Al thought electricity stopped here long ago, the Capitol has rigged partial power into the arena. Sometimes. The flickering lights are dim, and unreliable, and seem to always come and go at the worst times. Expect to find yourself exploring a tunnel by flickering lights, to suddenly be plunged into the kind of darkness you can only find under ground. Just you, the rat, and the person following you alone in the cozy darkness.

Photobucket

Supplies.

The Cornucopia is your first, most important resource. Around it are scattered the available resources:

Weapons:
-crowbar
-six-inch serrated hunting knife
-night stick

Equipment:
-day-glow orange backpacks containing the following items:
waterproof matches, high-tensile metal chord (12 feet) iodine
-small crate labeled "apples"
-chords of nylon rope
-metal quart-sized container presumably full of water
-flash lights

**IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!

Since this is a meme, we are going to allow each character the pick of ONE weapon and ONE equipment item, if you believe that your character would risk running for the cornucopia. Just remember. These are high demand items and we rather encourage you to fight over them ;) So long as you all remain civilized about it, of course. If things get out of hand, a mod will step in. Have fun with it, but be realistic too.

Photobucket

Immediate Hazards.

-The rats. They are big, nasty, and hungry. And there are MANY of them, especially if you go into the tunnels.

-Debris. Broken glass, rusted metal, broken concrete, rotten wood. This place has been falling apart for years and you weren't given a tetanus shot before you came here.

-Cave ins. The tunnels have not been maintained. They are not as stable as they once were after years of flooding and damage with no one to patch them up.

-The Water. Easy to acquire but bad to drink. Maybe you should pray for a rainstorm...

Photobucket

Wildlife.

**Columba livia. Common city pigeon. They are available in mass, flying in from the broken windows and holes in the roof. They are flighty, and messy, but not particularly smart.

**Loxosceles reclusa granda. Aggressive and unnervingly large brown spiders native to the area and love to lurk in dark corners. Their bites are incredibly poisonous and will begin to rot away the surrounding flesh if not treated promptly.

**Rattus norvegicus. The common rat. Edible if cooked. Known to be carriers of diseases. (Especially if they were put here to do just that...) These guys are EVERYWHERE and some of them get to sizes that might make you wonder if they are cross breeding with stay dogs. And if you explores the tunnels, beware the mythical rat king a massive bundles of rats whose tails have knotted together.

Foodstuffs.

Both the rats and pigeons are edible. In additions, some of the restaurants might have food tucked into the back, in various states of edible.

Dripping water can be found in many places. Drink at your own risk. Some is fine, some...not so much.

As always, we here at The Games would like to wish you a very happy Hunger Games!

May the odds be ever in your favour.

The darkness was, unfortunately, something that they shared equally. In fact, Sherlock's eyes were less adjusted to it than John's, having come in from a lighter area. Now that he could barely see the tracks he couldn't make out where the other had went, so walked forward almost completely blind, if not unarmed. Fist curling tight under the wire, his pace was deliberate and even.

But he did not call out.

Perhaps they had long since gone on their way...

He held his breath as the dark shape of the intruder approached and passed him, though he could see little more than an outline. Taller than he was as people generally were, slimmer- and, unless he was mistaken, unarmed, but carrying one of the packs of supplies he'd lost out on earlier. He made the decision.

Quickly, he jumped on the stranger from behind, wrapping his arm around his throat and doing his best to subdue any struggling- hoping a flash of reflected light from the knife in his hand might do the trick.
"Listen," he hissed. "I really, really don't want to kill you, or anybody, actually. But I'd rather not get myself killed either. So. If you leave me your pack, I'll let you go. Alright?"

[personal profile] alldeduction 2013-02-09 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
He'd been expecting it, but it still caught him off guard - even though his wire-protected hand shot up and grabbed the blade. He went instantly still when he heard the voice, however.

No. It couldn't be.

He would have known. Would have saw him on the dias, at the cornucopia, in the capitol --

They wouldn't have brought him here, now, without even a chance for him to see, without even a chance for him to check --

"John?" He asked, his voice cracking.
drpsychosomatic: (oh noes)

[personal profile] drpsychosomatic 2013-02-09 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
He stopped, still, breathing rapidly in the dark with his arm wrapped around the intruder's body, his blade snugly trapped in what seemed to be some kind of protective glove. It would be a struggle he wasn't sure he could win- though in the end, it was the voice that disarmed him. It shouldn't have been possible, but then again, what part of what he was going through now would be described as anything other than impossible?

"...Sherlock," he attempted, still not moving, though his grip loosened a little. "Is that..."

[personal profile] alldeduction 2013-02-09 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
His whole body seemed to slacken with relief, and then suddenly tense again as he realised what John being here meant.

"Me? Yes." He let out a breath. "... Are you quite finished with the armed robbery? Or were you hoping for a struggle--"

[personal profile] drpsychosomatic 2013-02-09 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
"I was hoping you'd drop the pack and run," he admitted, easing up on his hold- though he kept a very tight grip on his knife. "Before I knew who you are, that is. Christ. Sherlock- not to sound odd, or anything, but- are we dead?"
alldeduction: (a pained conversation)

[personal profile] alldeduction 2013-02-09 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Sherlock let the knife go, slowly attempting to ease himself from John's strangle hold. "Not as far as I've able to discern, no. Merely time displaced. But as we would have other wise have been dead for centuries, I'm not sure there is much difference."
drpsychosomatic: (facepalm)

[personal profile] drpsychosomatic 2013-02-09 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Time displaced." He shook his head, letting go and stepping back, still gripping his knife- and pressed his wad of ripped off sleeve to his temple again as the movement reminded him of his head wound. "You know that doesn't make any sense, right? None of this does."

[personal profile] alldeduction 2013-02-09 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes. I estimate at least 300 years in the future. Full dystopian apocalyptic future. Hence the--" He gestured vaguely, which meant little in the dark. But he was more flustered than he appeared.

He backed up a step, about to run a hand through his hair, but stopping when he remembered the wire. Slowly he began to unwind it from his hand. Only then did he look up and see the shadowed outline of John's hand pressing to his temple. He frowned.

"You're hurt."
drpsychosomatic: (you are joking of course)

[personal profile] drpsychosomatic 2013-02-09 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm fine," he insisted, as much as he doubted that was the case. "Though I should probably take a look at it in the light, and then you can explain what the hell we've got ourselves into this time."
alldeduction: (silhouette)

[personal profile] alldeduction 2013-02-09 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Sherlock nodded tersely, immediately turning back the way that he had come, where a vague grey light lay up ahead. He didn't wait or look back - he'd be able to tell fairly quickly if John wasn't keeping up.
drpsychosomatic: (stalking off)

[personal profile] drpsychosomatic 2013-02-09 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
John fell easily into his usual role- following Sherlock Holmes- but this time he was careful and wary, keeping his wits about him as best he could. Gradually, Sherlock's shape developed definitively in the dim light, and any lingering concerns John had about someone pretending to be him to knock him off guard dwindled away and died. Even without the coat and and bulked up in a hoodie and jeans, Sherlock's gait and posture was unmistakable.
He kept the knife in his hand, though. There was no telling when they might be joined by someone a lot less friendly.

"I was trying to find somewhere to hole up," he called forward. "Did you find somewhere?"

"No. I was focusing on making distance from the Cornucopia." He turned the corner and the platform game into view, complete with dim, but obvious light. He pulled to a stop and looked back, narrowing his eyes at the obvious blood on John's forehead.

John...

It really was him. There was absolutely no denying it, now. He had thought he was dead. He, and everyone else he had ever known. He had assumed all of them had been dead for hundreds of years...

His lips parted, but... what was there to say?

[personal profile] drpsychosomatic 2013-02-09 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
"That bad, is it?" he joked weakly, wiping the blade of his knife carefully on his hoodie and angling it to use as a barely effectual mirror- slowly releasing his hold on the makeshift compress to examine the wound below. Judging by the thick red blood still welling up from the cut he'd lost a fair amount of it, and the wound really was quite deep. Without something reliably disinfected to clean it up, he might be in trouble, though it was hard to tell.

"Don't suppose you have anything antiseptic in that pack of yours?" he asked, pocketing the knife and pressing the wad of material hard to his temple.

Sherlock went though his bag and took out the iodine. "Just this. But it might come in helpful, given that I doubt the water here is clean." He set the bag down again, as well as the iodine, and stepped over, reaching out to touch John's forehead, as if to confirm that he was real. His fingers came away sticky with blood. "... We'll simply have to bind it," He muttered lowly. "Or see if we can get a sponsor to send something better--"

"I think, given the alternative, that I can deal with a little scarring, should it come to that," John told him wryly. "Though I think the wound looks clean enough, for now."

He didn't really know what Sherlock meant by sponsors- he'd been given only the very briefest of explanations before being deposited into the Arena- but he was quite used to Sherlock knowing more than he did about what was going on and it didn't feel like an explanation would help too much, anyway. It could wait at least until they'd found somewhere a little more secure to put their heads together and try to make sense of everything.
