Then what exactly is stopping you from doing so? Are you awaiting some sort of sign from on high to illustrate the problems with your government?

No. Nothing is stopping me. I am already risking my life and devoting all of my time to fixing what is wrong with the world I live in and make it a better place for those who come after me. The only thing stopping me now is that I'm not currently there, because I'm here.

And while I'll express anger over what's being done by the government here, I'm not so self-important and pretentious that I'll pretend like I can speak for the people oppressed here, or like I'm one of them when I've never lived what they've had to. Be an ally to them but don't try to be their champion.

Someone must get people talking, someone must let them know they can act for themselves. I am no one's champion, and I think that mentality is antiquated at best. However, as I said, someone must begin things.

Then let it be one of them. Let them fight for themselves and find their own strength, not have it forced on them by someone else looking to feed his delusions of self-sacrificing perfection. Because I'm sorry, that's what this is. You've had a far better life than any of them ever have but you want to feel good about yourself, so you're forcing your way into their hardships and claiming them as your own.

Get a room, you two.

I assure you, this argument is entirely platonic.

I haven't delusions of self-sacrificing perfection as you call them, merely a desire to see a better future. One which I thought would have come by now.

Further, I shall stop my commentary on their politics and injustices when they stop directly involving me in them.

If you're going to keep talking about them, at least stop being so pretentious about it, then. That's all I ask.

I'm afraid I don't know what you mean.

And you never will until you take a step back and look at yourself and suffer from secondhand embarrassment so strong it makes you physically sick.

Perhaps you should try not to underscore your argument against over investment in the problems of another with something such as "secondhand embarrassment".
